Mechanical Design Engineer

Job description

  • Development of military vehicle sub-systems that, in parallel, satisfy the needs of efficient and effective manufacture / assembly and ongoing supportability, while not compromising in terms of robustness and reliability.
  • Generating design concepts for new and next generation products, including, CAD, material selection, defining processing parameters, tooling, and drafting to the department’s standards and procedures.
  • Interact with production and quality teams to investigate and obtain any necessary corrective action data.
  • Support other areas of product design engineering, as required
  • Technical support to the Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams for proposed designs.  
  • Undertake problem solving of design and product issues to resolve functional issues as they arise throughout the development.
  • Support Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) efforts to ensure a sustainable support solution.
  • Support Operations to ensure that components and assemblies can be manufactured effectively and efficiently
  • Recognise the need for engineering change and raise engineering change requests as appropriate.

Qualifications


  • Degree or equivalent (i.e. diploma or experience) in an appropriate Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline. 
  • Previous experience working on design and development projects, inception to launch, within an engineer to order technical environment.  
  • 5+ years of design experience using 3D CAD software, (CREO preferred) 
  • Familiar with the use of PLM software, (Windchill preferred)
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and design standards including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, ideally to automotive / defence requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on a technical level and contribute to team projects.
  • Proficient user of MS office software.
  • Familiar with configuration control and change management processes
  • Familiar with the compilation of Design FMEA’s.
  • Experience with the design of machined components and welded fabrications of steel and aluminum.
  • Must be able to obtain CGP clearance (citizen or permanent resident required)
